Ever have one of those weeks where everything feels off? Your energy is weird, your clients are all struggling, and you’re wondering if Mercury’s gone retrograde again (spoiler alert, it hasn’t).
You might be feeling the influence of the Human Design transits. These transits can explain a lot about what’s going on energetically in your life and in your coaching sessions.
In this post, we’ll explore what the Human Design transits are, how they work, and how you can begin to work with the transits to better support your coaching clients, and yourself.

What Are Human Design Transits?
We know that the planets are constantly moving through space, in their orbit around the sun. As they move, they activate different Gates in the Human Design BodyGraph chart. These movements and their temporary influence are what we call Human Design transits.
Think of these transits as like the cosmic “weather”. Your birth chart (i.e., your natal BodyGraph) never changes, just like your home address doesn’t change when it rains. However, what you feel and experience can change dramatically depending on what’s happening up in the sky.
In other words, transits don’t change who you are, but they do flavor your energy, your mindset, your emotions, and even the way you show up for your clients. But all of this is temporary and not a true facet within your own design.
Understanding the transits gives you an “energetic forecast” of sorts. Like, you don’t need to cancel your plans just because it’s raining, but you might bring a raincoat or leave your fancy shoes at home, right? Same thing goes with the planetary transits.
How Human Design Transits Show Up in the Chart
Every planet is currently activating specific Gate in the Rave Mandala (HD chart), based on its current position in its orbit. When Gate is activated by a transit, that energy temporarily “lights” up in your chart, even if it’s not part of your natal design.
If you already have that Gate defined, the energy feels more natural to you and therefore is often less disruptive. But if it’s undefined in your chart, the energy likely feels new or different, like a temporary theme that’s influencing your thoughts, emotions, or behaviors.
Temporary Channel and Center Activations
Here’s where things get interesting: sometimes, a transiting planet activates the Harmonic Gate to one of your own activated Hanging Gates. This creates a temporarily defined Channel that you don’t normally have access to.
For example, if you normally have an undefined G Center but a planetary transit creates a fully defined channel between the G and the Sacral for you, you might suddenly feel a burst of identity, direction, or purpose… only to feel it fade a few days later.
How to Generate a Transit Chart
To go deeper than the general energetic “weather,” you can actually generate a chart that overlays the current transits on top of your own Human Design natal chart. This lets you see exactly how the planets are impacting your individual design and energy.
My favorite tool for this is Neutrino Design, which allows you to:
- View all of the current transits in real time
- Look at past dates (great for reflecting on energy during launches, big life events, or client breakthroughs)
- Check future dates to anticipate upcoming energetic themes for yourself and your clients
- See all of the transit activations overlaid onto a specific person’s chart

Themes of the 13 Celestial Objects in Human Design
In Human Design, there are 13 planetary bodies that influence your chart, both at birth and through these ongoing transits. Each one brings its own unique flavoring of energy.
| Celestial Object | Theme in Human Design Transits |
|---|---|
| Sun | Life force, true essence, core themes |
| Earth | Grounding, growth, balance |
| Moon | Motivation, what drives or moves you |
| North Node | Future direction, karmic path |
| South Node | Past patterns, where you’ve been |
| Mercury | Communication, thinking, ideas |
| Venus | Values, relationships, aesthetics |
| Mars | Drive, aggression, immaturity |
| Jupiter | Expansion, blessings, philosophy |
| Saturn | Discipline, responsibility, lessons |
| Uranus | Innovation, rebellion, surprises |
| Neptune | Spirituality, dreams, illusion |
| Pluto | Death and rebirth, shadow themes |
Not sure where to begin? I recommend tracking the Sun and Earth transits each week. These often have the most noticeable day-to-day effects on mindset, mood, and the conversations you’re having with clients. Plus, they change roughly every six days, so a once-a-week transit check-in is perfect.
Why Human Design Transits Matter for Coaches
So why should you, as a coach, care about the Human Design transits?
Because your clients are living in the same energetic “soup” as you are. When you understand what themes are active at a specific point in time, you better understand any shifts in your client’s:
- Mood
- Energy level
- Emotional expression
- Communication patterns
- And so much more
Let’s say the Sun is transiting Gate 36, the Gate of Crisis in the Solar Plexus (the emotional center). Suddenly your clients are all talking about heightened emotions or struggling with impulsive, emotionally-led behavior. You’re not imagining it! This is exactly what Human Design transits helps explain.
Being able to name these energies and patterns in a session is powerful. Your clients might say, “Ohhh, that’s what this is. I’m not going crazy!”
Tracking The Transits As a Coach
You don’t need to become an astronomer or astrologer to understand the Human Design transits. Start small, focusing on just a few things at first.
For example:
- Pick 1–2 planets to follow each week (I suggest starting with the Sun and Earth).
- Use a tool like Neutrino Design or Genetic Matrix to check Gate activations.
- Reflect on patterns you notice in your own energy and in your client sessions.
- Journal on these reflections. This builds your understanding of how different Gates feel over time.
How to Use The Human Design Transits With Clients
Ready to bring this into your coaching sessions? Here are a few easy ways to get started:
- Normalize energy shifts, especially for undefined Centers and Gates that suddenly become activated for your client.
- Share journal prompts related to the activated Gates: “What’s changing right now?” or “What are you being guided to see differently here?”
- Watch for temporary definition in your client’s BodyGraph chart (especially Channels that might give them a temporary “energy boost”, or a defined Center they don’t normally have defined).
This doesn’t mean every coaching session has to become a Human Design reading, but adding this awareness helps you hold space for what’s really going on for your clients underneath the surface.
